SEALANT APPLICATIONS
Stone Heritage offers a variety of sealant applications including non-slip options for residential and commercial concrete surfaces, including walls, warehouses, car parks, car garages, drive ways, patios, kitchens and toilets.
There is no single sealant product that is good for all situations, they all have their pro’s and con’s. We will assess the location, the result that is needed and the look that is desired. We will advise of what product we feel would be the most appropriate for the situation.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SEALANTS
Silicate Based Sealants penetrate into the concrete and fill all the microscopic capillaries by forming a solid gel which locks in the free lime and calcium deposits of the concrete. This hardens and densifies the concrete. Silicates are used in commercial situations in large areas and also in The Stone Heritage Polishing System. They require low maintenance.
Solvent Sealers absorb into the concrete and give a matt finish while slightly darkening the concrete . Good for interior and exterior surfaces, they have good water and stain resistance, can have grit added for non slip, needs recoating every 3 – 5 years.
NON SLIP SEALANT APPLICATIONS
We specialise in sealant products that have been approved by the Council, in accordance with the building act, for a commercial grade slip resistant finish.
Alternatively on non-commercial sites grit can be added to solvent based or acrylic sealers to add traction in areas that may be a hazardous when wet or frosty. The main down fall of adding grit to a sealant is that its life is decreased and will need to be re-applied more often and frequent cleaning is required.
The Stone Heritage Exposed Grind is the ideal solution for low maintenance exterior areas where greater grip in slippery conditions is required. This process is a similar look to honed concrete. After the honing is complete the concrete is acid washed and scrubbed heavily to leave only the aggregate flat but exposed by 2 – 3mm above the concrete. A sealant is then applied.
This is a great look for outdoor patios or high use public areas and is a hard wearing surface. This costs more than simply adding grit to a sealant but is considerably more durable and has a much longer life span.
Acrylic Sealers has similar qualities as a Solvent Sealer but will give a much lighter appearance. Excellent chemical resistance.
Polyurethanes and Epoxy sealers are a topical product that will give a high gloss finish and look fantastic for the year or two. They can be used on all surfaces and provide good water and stain resistance. They will scratch and will wear in high traffic areas, recoating is expensive and time consuming.
